The honest split — desk-heavy vs. field-bound AEC roles

"Remote work in AEC" gets treated like a yes-or-no question. It is not. AEC is a stack of distinct disciplines, and the answer depends entirely on what the deliverable is. The list is not exhaustive, but the pattern is clear: if the deliverable is a document, a model, a calc, a schedule, a stamp, or a packet — it can ship from anywhere. If the deliverable is physical presence on a jobsite — it cannot.

Works remote-friendly (with the engagement-model caveat)

A safety lead's OSHA log and incident write-ups can be remote. But the role itself cannot.

The honest assessment: if the role requires boots on the slab every day, plan around the geographic radius of the project, not a national talent pool.
